The Pilates Ball Guide: How to Inflate, Use and Love Your Mini Ball.
Small, simple and surprisingly versatile, the mini ball can bring a little more intention to familiar movements. Here’s how to get yours ready and start using it.

What is a Pilates mini ball?
A Pilates mini ball is a small prop that can be held or placed between parts of the body during movement. The Pilates 101 mini ball measures 10 in (25 cm) and is made from anti-burst PVC.
It can be introduced to familiar movements as a point of contact, something to hold, or a simple way to explore a movement differently.
The mini ball is one of 7 pieces in the Pilates 101 kit.
How do I inflate my Pilates ball?
Your mini ball ships deflated and includes an inflation straw. Inflate it a little at a time, checking the feel as you go.
- Remove the plug from the ball.
- Insert the included straw into the opening.
- Blow through the straw to add air gradually.
- Pause and gently press the ball to check how it feels.
- When it feels right for your practice, remove the straw and replace the plug.

How inflated should it be?
Inflate the ball until it holds its shape while still giving slightly when pressed.
You do not need to make it completely firm. Add or release a little air until it feels comfortable and manageable for the movement you are doing.
What are five beginner exercises with the mini ball?
Start with slow, familiar movements and use the ball as a simple point of contact. These five options are an easy place to begin.
- 01
Seated inner-thigh press
Sit tall with both feet on the floor. Place the ball between your thighs, gently press in, then release with control.
- 02

Lie on your back with knees bent and the ball between your thighs. Gently press the ball as you lift and lower your hips.
- 03
Supine hand-to-knee press
Lie on your back with knees bent. Place the ball between one hand and the opposite knee, press gently, then switch sides.
- 04
Standing wall press

How do I care for my Pilates ball?
Keep the ball clean, check it before use and store it away from anything that could puncture it.
- Wipe the surface after use and let it dry before storing.
- Keep it away from sharp edges and rough surfaces.
- Check the ball and plug before each use.
- Add or release air with the included straw when needed.
